hmm, tbh.. i don't know..? but i think that using references or just pictures of hands is useful :) then, if you have a lot of imagination, that you don't want to draw other people's hands anymore, you can practice on your own hand!! i remember doing it like that!!! (^o^)
and you can also look at how other artists draw hands, and from that you can come up with smth of your own :) and i also think that it's worth practicing!! i've been drawing for a long time, and i don't even remember when i learned to draw hands.. but i remember that i took my favorite artist's drawings as a reference...
btw, madness combat sprites are also very useful!! they can also be used as reference!!
